A New Generation

This month marks the arrival of the latest technology in home sewing.

New models arrive continually.  Many models contain features that have previously existed but are re-presented in a new package.  Bigger, better, faster, brighter, bla, bla bla.  Several years can pass before an innovative feature arrives that is an industry game changer.

Brother Industries of Nagoya, Japan recently introduced embroidery/sewing machines that have Optical Recognition.  Marketed in the U.S. under the Brother Quattro (Model NV6000d) and Baby Lock Ellisimo (Model BLSO) labels, these models truly incorporate technological features that have left competitors in the dust.

This is what optical recognition can do, now:

  • The machine can “read” the fabric’s edge and stitch a seam, precisely where the user chooses, even when the edge curves.
  • Search and find a registration mark that you, the user places on an embroidery project.  Once recognized, the system centers and orients embroidery per the mark.  The project can be hooped off-center and off-axis with perfect results.

I believe the engineers did not play all of their cards.  These user-upgradable models are sure to make further use of this technology.

I can’t wait!
